1. 개요

55회 시상식은 1983년 3월 11일 LA Dorothy Chandler Pavilion에서 개최되었고 Liza Minnelli, Dudley Moore, Richard Pryor, Walter Matthau 등이 진행했다. 영화 사관과 신사에 출연한 루이 고셋 (Louis Gossett, Jr.)은 최초의 흑인 남우조연상 수상을 기록한다. 메일스트립 3년전 여우조연상에 이어 소피의 선택으로 여우주연상을 수상한다. 걸작 영화 간디가 11개 부문 후보에 올라 8개 주요 부문을 수상한다. 스필버그의 세계적인 히트작 E.T.는 4개 부문을 수상했고, 사관과 신사가 2개 부문을 수상한다. 주제가 상을 수상한 사관과 신사의 Up Where We Belong와 후보에 올랐던 록키3 주제가 Eye of the Tiger는 상업적으로도 큰 성공을 거두게 된다.
