1. 개요

50회 시상식은 1978년 4월 3일 LA Dorothy Chandler Pavilion에서 개최되었고 Bob Hope가 오랜만에 다시 진행을 맡았다.  영화 스타워즈가 단연 화제가 되었다. Turning Point는 11개 후보에 올라 단 한 개도 수상하지 못한 기록을 남겼다. 반면 Julia는 11개 후보에 올라 3개 부문을 수상한다. 10개 후보를 낸 스타워즈는 6개 부문을 수상해 최다 수상작이 되었고, 애니홀은 4개 부문을 수상했다. Jason Robards는 2년연속 연기상을 받아 역대 4번째 연속 수상자가 된다.
