1. 개요

42회 시상식은 1970년 4월 7일 LA Dorothy Chandler Pavilion에서 개최되었다. 위성을 통해 처음으로 세계에 생중계되었지만 실재 북미에서만 방송되었고, 해외에서는 맥시코와 브라질만이 생방송으로 방송했다. 역대 가장 좋았던 시상식으로 평가 받았다. Midnight Cowboy (미드나잇 카우보이)가 X등급 최초로 작품상을 받았고, 주요 작품에서 연기상 후보가 없던 것은 이번이 처음이었다. 10개 부문 후보에 올랐던 Anne of the Thousand Days은 의상상을 수상하는데 그쳤고, Butch Cassidy 와 the Sundance Kid가 각 4개 부문을 수상하고, Hello, Dolly!와 Midnight Cowboy가 3개 부문을 수상했다.
