1. 요약

26회 시상식은 1954년 3월 25일 할리우드 RKO Pantages Theatre, 뉴욕의 NBC International Theatre에서 동시에 열렸다. 전년도에 이어 2번째로 TV로 생중계되었는데, 4300만명이 시청했다. (당시 미국인들 대부분이 봤다고해도 과언이 아님), 주요 수상작품은 대부분 흑백영화가 차지했다. 작품상을 받은 From Here to Eternity(지상에서 영원으로* 꼭 보기를 권한다)은 총 13개 부문에 노미네이트되어 총8개 부문을 수상했는데 1939년 바람과 함께 사라지다 이후 최다 수상작이었다. 남우 주연상을 수상한 William Holden의 "Thank You"라는 짧은 인사말은 여태 가장 짧은 수상 소감으로 남아 있다.(^^)
