1. 요약

14회 시상식은 1942년 2월 26일 LA의 Biltmore Hotel (빌트모어 호텔)에서 열렸다. Bob Hope가 진행했다. 1941년 미국에서 상영된 영화를 대상으로 시상되었다. 작품상은 How Green Was My Valley이 차지했고 총 5개 부문을 수상한 최다 수상작이기도했다. 오손 웰스의 걸작 시민 케인 (Citizen Kane)이 작품상을 수상하지 못한 것이 아쉬웠다. John Ford는 How Green Was My Valley을 연출해 13회에 이어 연속으로 감독상을 수상했는데, 이때가 감독상은 3번째 수상이었다. 참고로 1952년 영화 The Quiet Man 연출로 감독상을 수상해 아카데미에서는 생애 4번의 감독상을 수상한다. 역사적으로 1941년 12월 7일 일본이 미국의 진주만을 공숩했는데, 얼마 지나지 않아 열린 시상식이었다.
