1. 요약

10회 시상식은 1938년 3월 10일 LA의 Biltmore Hotel (빌트모어 호텔)에서 열렸다. 진행은 Bob Burns가 맡았다. 작품상은 The Life of Emile Zola이 받았다. The Life of Emile Zola은 10개 부문에 후보에 올라 3개부문을 수상했고 Lost Horizon와 A Star is Born은 7개 부문에 후보에 올랐다. Lost Horizon이 2개 부문에서 상을 가져갔다. 그리고 Luise Rainer가 2년 연속으로 여우주연상을 수상하는 기록을 남겼다. A Star is Born은 수상은 못했지만 컬러 영화 최초로 작품상 후보에 올랐다는 의미가 있는 작품이다. 그리고 A Star is Born(스타탄생)은 이후 1954년에 Judy Garland 와 James Mason 주연으로, 1976년 Barbra Streisand와 Kris Kristofferson 주연으로 리메이크 되기도 했다.

그리고 어빙 G. 탤버그 기념상(Irving G. Thalberg Memorial Award)이 처음 신설이 되었다. 미국의 영화 제작 시스템을 구축한 MGM의 프로듀서 어빙 솔버그의 업적을 기념하 위해 시작된 특별상이다. 영화 산업에 공헌을 한 프로듀서를 대상으로 수상자가 선정된다. 현재는 오락성이 뛰어난 작품으로 흥행성적은 좋지만 아카데미상은 받지 못하는 영화 감독에 상을 주는 위로의 의미가 강해지고 갔다. (대표적으로 조지 루카스)
