1. 개요

72회 시상식은 2000년 3월 26일 LA Shrine Auditorium에서 개최되었고 Billy Crystal이 통산 7번째 진행을 맡았다. 아메리칸 뷰티 (American Beauty)가 8개 최다 후보에 올라 주요 5개부문을 수상했고, SF 걸작 The Matrix(매트릭스)가 4개 부문을 수상하는데, 스타워즈 에피소드1은 이에 밀려 1개의 상도 받지 못한다. The Cider House Rules(사이더 하우스)와 Topsy-Turvy이 2개의 상을 가져가고 나머지 영화들이 1개 씩의 트로피를 가져간다.
