1. 요약

32회 시상식은 1960년 4월 4일 할리우드 RKO Pantages Theatre에서 열렸다. Bob Hope가 단독 진행을 맡았다. 걸작 영화 벤허(Ben-Hur)가 12개 부문 후보에 올라 작품상을 포함해 11개 부문을 수상했다. (작년 영화 지지가 세웠던 9개 부문 수상 기록을 갈아 치웠다) 이 기록은 1997년 타이타닉과 2003년 반지의 제왕 이전까지 역대 최다 수상 기록이었다.

참고로 벤허는 1926년 무성영화를 리메이크 한 작품으로 당시로서는 엄청난 1천 5백만달러라는 제작비가 들어간 당대 최고의 블록버스터였다. 벤허는 남우주연상과 조연상을 모두 가져간 3번째 영화로 2004년 영화 미스틱 러버가 수상할때까지 이 런 기록은 없었다. 감독상을 수상한 윌리엄 라일러는 개인 통산 3번째 수상으로 존포드 감독의 4회 수상, 프랭크 카프라(Frank Capra)의 3회 수상과 더불어 아카데미 역사상 현재까지 감독상을 3번 이상 받은 3명의 감독 중 한 명이 되었다.
