1. 요약

20회 시상식은 1948년 3월 20일 LA의 슈리네 극장 (Shrine Auditorium)에서 열렸다. Agnes Moorehead와 Dick Powell가 공동 진행을 맡았다. Gentleman's Agreement(신사협정)가 8개 부문에 노미네이트 되어 작품상 포함 총 3개 부분을 수상했고, Miracle on 34th Street (34번가의 기적) 역시 3개 부문을 수상했다. Rosalind Russell은 시상식전에 자신이 여우주연상을 수상할 것으로 여겼지만, 수상자는 Loretta Young이었다. 흑인 배우 James Baskett가 공로상을 받았지만, 여론은 남우주연상을 주는 대신 위로의 성격으로 주었다고 혹평했다. 남우 조연상을 받은 Edmund Gwenn은 당시 71세로 최고령 수상자로 기록되었다. 이후 1976년 George Burns이 80세로 수상해 이 기록이 깨진다. 

참고로 Miracle on 34th Street (34번가의 기적)은 1955년, 1959년, 1973년, 1994년 리메이크 되었고, 1963년에 브로드웨이 뮤지컬로도 공연이 되었다.
